Biography
Dr Matthew Ikuabe is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Construction Economics and Management at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, where he also serves as Coordinator for Teaching and Learning and is a member of the School’s Leadership Team.
He holds honours and master’s degrees in Quantity Surveying from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria, and a doctorate in Construction Management from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.
He completed his postdoctoral fellowship under the SARChI Chair in Sustainable Construction Management and Leadership in the Built Environment at the University of Johannesburg. Dr Ikuabe is an accomplished scholar with more than 100 publications, including journal articles, book chapters, and peer-reviewed conference papers.
He is the lead author of the Routledge book A Roadmap for the Uptake of Cyber-Physical Systems for Facilities Management, which reflects his research interest in digital transformation, smart infrastructure, facilities management, and innovation in the built environment.
He is a corporate member of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) and the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors (ASAQS). His academic achievements include graduating top of his honours class, completing his master’s degree with distinction, and being recognised among Emerald’s Top Published Authors affiliated with SANLiC institutions in 2023.
Within the BUCABUMA project, Dr Ikuabe contributes expertise in construction management, project delivery systems, digital technologies, cost optimisation, and sustainable infrastructure implementation.
