Prof. Michael Bodunrin is an Associate Professor in the School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, where he is actively involved in teaching, postgraduate supervision, and research leadership in advanced materials engineering.

His research focuses on the development of titanium alloys and low-density stainless steels for biomedical implant applications, with particular emphasis on corrosion behaviour, mechanical performance, and biocompatibility in physiological environments.

This work supports the design of affordable, durable, and high-performance materials for orthopaedic and dental healthcare applications.

Michael is a Y1-rated researcher by the National Research Foundation of South Africa and was awarded the prestigious iCANX Young Scientist Award in 2024 in recognition of his contributions to biomaterials research. He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Engineering Council (UK) and a Member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (MIMMM).

He is also involved in the BUCABUMA project, where his expertise in materials processing, testing and characterisation, circular resource utilisation, and performance optimisation contributes to the development of sustainable and contextually appropriate building materials.
